SIA Door Supervisor Level 2 Refresher

Our Door Supervisor Refresher Course is the mandatory qualification required for all SIA Door Supervisor licence holders renewing their licence in 2026 and beyond.

SIA Door Supervisor Refresher Course | Level 2 Award

From 1 April 2025, door supervisors must undertake refresher training before they can renew their SIA licence. This is not optional, without the refresher qualification, your licence cannot be renewed and you cannot legally continue working in a frontline security role. Our three-day course delivers full coverage of the updated SIA refresher competencies, delivered by experienced instructors at our training centre in North Wales.

Whether your licence is approaching expiry or you want to stay ahead of the deadline, this course ensures you remain compliant, current, and confident in your role.

Who Needs to Attend the Door Supervisor Refresher Course

This course is for any SIA-licensed Door Supervisor whose licence is due for renewal. Specifically:

  • Door supervisors whose licence is expiring and who need to renew after 1 April 2025

  • Licence holders who want to complete refresher training ahead of their renewal deadline

  • Security professionals returning to active frontline work after a period away from the industry

  • Door supervisors who want to update their knowledge and ensure skills reflect current industry standards

You can apply to renew your SIA licence up to four months before your current licence expires, and any remaining time on your current licence will be added to your new one, so there is no benefit to waiting until the last minute. Booking your refresher early avoids the risk of gaps in your licence and ensures you can continue working without interruption.

Is the Door Supervisor Refresher Course Mandatory?

Yes. From 1 April 2025, the SIA made it a requirement that you must hold a refresher qualification before you can renew your Door Supervisor licence. This applies to all door supervisors renewing their licence from that date onwards, regardless of when their original qualification was completed.

You must hold an up-to-date Emergency First Aid at Work qualification, or equivalent, before you can take the refresher training, and you will need to show this to your training provider when you register. If your EFAW certificate has expired or is close to expiry, contact us so that we can advise on completing your first aid qualification before the refresher course begins.

What Happens If You Don't Complete the Refresher in Time?

Your SIA licence will not renew automatically, and if your licence has already expired, you cannot renew it, you must apply for a new licence instead. This means starting the full application process from scratch, including criminal record checks and identity verification. Completing your refresher before your licence expires is significantly simpler and less costly than allowing it to lapse.

Why the Door Supervisor Licence Allows More Than Just Door Work

A Door Supervisor licence is more versatile than a standard Security Guard licence, it allows you to work both as a security officer and as a door supervisor at venues where alcohol is served. A Security Guard licence alone cannot be used for door supervision roles. Choosing the Door Supervisor pathway from the outset gives you significantly more employment flexibility across the security industry.

Your SIA Door Supervisor Qualification

On successfully completing the course, you will receive your Level 2 Award for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry, along with your EFAW Level 3 and Fire Marshal Level 2 certificates. You can then apply directly to the SIA for your Door Supervisor licence.

The SIA Door Supervisor licence is valid for three years, after which it must be renewed before it expires. From April 2025, a Refresher qualification is required for existing SIA licensed Door Supervisors applying to renew their licence. R24/7 also offer a Door Supervisor Refresher Course for licence renewals, speak to our team for details.
