First Aid at Work Level 3 Course
Our First Aid at Work Level 3 Course is a comprehensive three-day regulated qualification that provides the in-depth training required to act as a fully appointed workplace First Aider.
While the one-day Emergency First Aid at Work qualification covers the essentials, the First Aid at Work (FAW) Level 3 goes significantly further — equipping delegates to manage a much wider range of medical emergencies with confidence and competence. Under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, employers in higher-risk environments are required to appoint qualified First Aiders at Work, and this course meets that requirement in full.
Delivered over three structured days by an experienced instructor at our training centre in North Wales, the course combines practical scenario-based learning with underpinning theory to ensure every delegate is genuinely prepared for real-world emergencies.
What You Will Learn on the First Aid at Work Course
Across the three days, delegates will cover:
The roles, responsibilities, and legal duties of a First Aider at Work
Assessing an incident and managing the scene safely
Adult CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and rescue breathing
Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Managing an unresponsive casualty and applying the recovery position
Recognition and treatment of shock
Managing choking in adults
Treatment of wounds, severe bleeding, and haemorrhage control
Head, neck, and spinal injuries
Fractures, dislocations, and musculoskeletal injuries
Burns and scalds
Eye injuries
Chest injuries and breathing difficulties
Anaphylaxis and the use of auto-injectors
Seizures, strokes, and diabetic emergencies
Poisoning and substance-related emergencies
Record keeping and reporting responsibilities
By the end of the course, delegates will be qualified to respond to the full range of medical emergencies likely to be encountered in a workplace setting.

Who Should Attend the First Aid at Work Level 3 Course
This qualification is suitable for:
Employees appointed as their organisation's designated First Aider at Work
Security professionals, door supervisors, and close protection operatives
Construction workers, site managers, and those in higher-risk working environments
Event staff, festival crew, and those working in large public-facing venues
Team leaders, supervisors, and managers with responsibility for staff welfare
Individuals renewing an existing FAW certificate before it expires
No prior first aid experience is required. The course is open to delegates from any background or sector.
Your First Aid at Work Qualification
On successfully completing the course, delegates will receive a nationally recognised Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work. This qualification is regulated and is accepted by employers, HSE inspectors, insurers, and regulatory bodies across all sectors.
The certificate is valid for three years. A FAW refresher course should be completed before expiry to maintain compliance and keep skills current. Letting a certificate lapse means a full course re-sit is required rather than a shorter refresher.
What Is the Difference Between EFAW and FAW?
The Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification is a one-day course covering the core essentials. It is suitable for lower-risk workplaces with small numbers of staff.
The First Aid at Work (FAW) Level 3 is a three-day qualification that covers a significantly broader range of conditions and injuries. It is required by law in higher-risk environments — such as construction, manufacturing, events, and security — and for any workplace where a full First Aider at Work designation is needed rather than an emergency-only responder.
If you are unsure which qualification is right for your organisation, our training team can advise based on your workplace risk assessment.
